My Migraine Story
I've had headaches since I can remember.
My parents took me to many different doctors, since I was a child, I saw Neurologist (several of them), ophthalmologists, Internal Medicine, ER doctors, endocrinologists etc....
I had several EEGs, and blood work done, many times.
I've taken all kind of meds, for pain management, to prevent migraine episodes, anxiolitics and even anti epileptics (and I do not have epilepsy)!. And of course this meds had other side effects that I had to deal with.
I've ended in the Emergency room too many times, hooked to an IV drip that will help me stop my head from pounding and would let me have a good night sleep.
So, when I met someone that tells me about these horrible headaches, I understand, and I believe them.
It is awful to live with pain, not been able to function and continue with your daily life and chores.
I remember I had to hide in my room with black out curtains, light off, in complete silence for hours until the pain decreased enough so I can leave the room and go on with life.
I lived like this for about 30 years. And now I can say "I am migraine FREE!", and life is wonderful without pain.
What did I do? I went into Naturopathic College, and I learned about something called Food Sensitivities.
But,.... I ate healthy, and I exercised, how can my migraines be related to Food?
I won't lie, It did take me a lot of time, patience and commitment to get where I am now, but for sure was worth it.
Well, I ran a Food sensitivity test, turned out I was sensitive to many "Healthy" foods like Flax and almonds and many other things that I loved like Corn, egg and Barley (Beer).
In total I eliminated 40 foods from my diet, for several months, healed my gut with supplements and added acupuncture sessions too.
Soon, my migraines reduced. Suddenly I wasn't carrying any Advil in my Purse anymore. Slowly I re introduced most of the foods, and I have learned to eat them moderately.
Now I don't shut the curtains in my room, and I love waking up with the sun in my face.
Eliminating foods not only helped me with migraines, I also lost some weight , I sleep better and gained energy.
Not all migraines are the same, and not all of them have the same root cause.
This is my Migraine Story.
